Various domain-specific extensions are being built on the IES framework to provide sector-specific enhancements.
Domains
It is anticipated that the domains set out below will be required by the active IES community and its applications.
It is likely that more domains will emerge from future use cases and applications and this layered architecture will help establish the basis for managing these extensions.
IES People

The largest domain, containing classes and properties related to people and socio-economic concepts Models people-related concepts, including identities, roles, affiliations, and interactions across sectors:
- Social activities
- Identity and demographics
- Finance and accounts
- Communication
- Online activities
IES Built Environment

Focused on the buildings and infrastructure including utilities:
- Buildings
- Addresses
- Facilities
- Spaces
- Transportation
- Utilities
- Networks
- Geographic features specific to the building and infrastructure environments (extended from IES Common)
The work on ‘Building’ currently has a particular emphasis on energy performance, efficiency, and sustainability in building management.
IES Security

This addresses security, policing and defence concepts including:
- Politics & Governance
- Law Enforcement
- Military
- Intelligence
- Criminal Activities
IES Systems

This covers technical and system concepts, including:
- Risk and resilience
- Software
- Hardware
- Complex systems and their components
